Ever since you
started to do something online you should be hearing the term SEO or
Search Engine Optimization.
If you didn’t hear of it yet, you are not late.
Search Engine
Optimization is just like stock marketing. Everybody has some theory about it.
Sometimes
it will work and sometimes it will not. But there will always be a group of
people who constantly makes a profit out of it.
So, in this post, we can
understand what exactly this is. And you can start experimenting yourself.
Breaking into
most simple words, it’s something that brings the public to your website.
We
all do searches on the internet. For that, there are search engines like Google,
Bing or Yahoo!
Basic !dea
Suppose you want
to find a place for stitching your shirt. So, you will search that on the web and what
will you do?
You will click on the first website that comes up. If you are not
getting what you are looking for, you will jump on to the second website.
At a
maximum, you will search on the sites that came on the first page. Search Engine
Optimization is basically this. Bringing up your website on the first page.
So,
let’s move technically.
Technical Aspect
Consider the search engine as a librarian who has access to whole books in the world. These
books will be the website.
The users will go up to the search engine and asks
for something. Search Engine knows all the information inside the websites.
So,
it will bring up that website that has an answer for the user’s query. For
doing that search engines have magic; called an algorithm.
When the website fits the algorithm of the search engine it will come up in the result. These search
engines have a checklist.
When the checklist matches with your website data,
tadaa!!! There is your website in the search result.
Let’s go in
detail. We already said there Is a checklist. Let’s check out what are the
contents in the checklist
ØWords
Ø Title
Ø Links
Ø Words in Links
Ø Reputation
1. Words
The search
engines account for every word on the website.
Suppose someone searches for ‘water
bottles’, the search engine displays only those websites having the word 'water
bottles'.
2. Title
Every web page
has a title. In the case of a blogger, while you are creating a new post, you can find a
button HTML near to compose.
If you click on that you can find your post content
in HTML.
In this code, you can find something between the tags <title> and
</title>. Search Engines give great importance to these titles.
If somebody
searches ‘water bottles at the lowest rate’ and a website have the exact same words
between their <title> tag then the search engine will bring up that website.
It is just
like a book title. It represents the essence of the web page.
3. Links
When one website
has a link to another webpage, technically the former website is recommending
the latter.
Consider a website called ‘X’. Now this website ‘X’ has numerous incoming
links from other websites, telling the people this website has good content.
Then search engines will bring that website in the search results. To get
noticed by the search engine a lot of people creates bogus links or make their
own pages to link their websites.
That’s why search engines give priority.
The search engine
gives priority to the incoming links from trustworthy websites.
4. Words in Links
We have seen
that certain websites will lead their affiliate links to Amazon.com.
Like ‘the camera we have used to shoot this footage is D520’. In this sentence, move your cursor
over the word ’camera’ and watch the left bottom point of your browser.
You
will see a link to the Amazon website. So what search engines will do is next
time someone searches about a camera the amazon site will come up.
5. Reputation
Lastly, search
engines will prioritise websites with fresh and engaging content.
If due to
above factors website, ‘X’ has more visitors when compared to the website ‘Y’ which
has uploaded the same niche content on the same date, website ‘X’ will come up
first.
To sum up these
are the basic things the search engine looks at on websites while someone searches
the internet.
They constantly change their algorithm to differentiate between
real contents and those who mislead the search engine. Even if these basic
things won’t change.
Now, most of the
websites don’t advertise on other websites but still, they come up in the
first places. This how they will do Optimisation.
Those websites know how to satisfy the search engine checklist. This post is to understand
what is search engine optimisation?
